Ensuring Data Privacy and Student Safety Online

Data privacy and online student safety may sound daunting and technical, better left to the information technology specialists and law enforcement. In fact, teachers can do simple, important things to protect student data and create safe places for online learning. Students are safer when teachers take responsibility instead of waiting for the school district to provide all the protection.

Learning Targets:

  • Evaluate and reconfigure or eliminate any app, website, product, or service that does not protect student data.
  • Teach students digital safety skills to protect themselves in online environments.
  • Teach students what to do when they encounter inappropriate content online.
